What’s on this week?
Our video this week is a tribute to Liam Payne, musician and former member of One Direction who died last week. It’s a terribly sad event and our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans.
When I choose a video, I correct the subtitles and give you notes so you can understand any language and culture that’s key to understanding.

Language Focus
This week there is no real language focus. We could have looked at ways of reacting to bad news or how to say you are sad, but it’s too sad a story to just be material for an English class. Instead, I just wanted to leave you with the words written by Liam’s bandmates and friends. It must be so difficult to find the words to say goodbye.
We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.

Devastated (adjective) - very shocked and upset
To pass (verb) - the death or end of someone or something
To grieve (verb) - to feel or express great sadness, especially when someone dies
To treasure (verb) - to care for something because you love or value it
